Must be Celebrity Day

I went to a stake women's conference yesterday. Jenny Phillips was there! She spoke and sang beautiful music. I was very impressed with her talent. All my teenage years I grew a lot spiritually by listening to her music. The very first CD I ever owned was one of her CDs which was given to me by my grandmother when I turned 12.

Later in the evening Brett and I went to the Patriot Day celebration at the Lions Club Park. There were probably about 2,000 people there for the massive picnic. The Duggar family spoke to us and played a concert with their violins. It was kind of cool to watch all their kids running around amid the sea of people.

Various choirs performed patriotic songs. There was a Patriot Princess and even an art competition, video, sing-along, and firework show. And our state representative Todd Akin was there too!

I was very impressed with how patriotic our community is. I came away from that feeling very grateful and lucky to be an American.
