One-Year Anniversary, Part 2

We had gorgeous weather this weekend. After it being in the triple digits plus the humidity of the midwest, it was such a relief to enjoy the cool breeze and clear dry air.

We continued our anniversary celebration by having a picnic at one of the many parks here in Rolla next to a lake covered in lily pads and surrounded by cat tails. We brought along some donuts that we picked up on the way there. Short story about donuts:
While we were dating Brett would get some donuts and we would eat them on the jungle gym on Saturday mornings at a park near my house.

We made our own pizza for dinner. One of the few things Brett brought into our marriage was a large round pizza pan. It's dented and warped, but the pizza we make with it turns out so good! We had a little picnic again and ate it on our front patio right out of the pan. The weather was way too nice to be indoors.

We waited until about 10:30 and then drove way out into the country to a scenic lookout point off the highway. Getting away from the city was well worth it because we got to have a perfect, clear view of the Perseid meteor shower. We saw the brightest, most fantastic shooting star display. Every year my family drives up into the mountains of Southern California to watch the Perseid meteor shower, but this year was the most spectacular show I'd ever seen. They were like the shooting stars you see in the movies with the long trailing streaks of light, except they weren't special effects. Brett and I had a thrill of a time.
For our actual anniversary day I made a roast chicken dinner feast with frozen strawberry yogurt pie for  dessert. I made Brett a candy bar card and he thought that was pretty cool. He has such a sweet tooth; I knew he would get a good kick out of it.
He gave me a beautiful black and white diamond necklace. The exact one I said I liked when we were in a jewelry store in Branson last week. I love it!

So much has happened in a whole year. I spoke with my grandfather on the phone recently and he asked me "So how's life in poverty?"
We may not be living with much, but the true happiness comes when we have to work hard and be creative to see the fruits of our labors and the baby steps forward. We make do with little and we learn to be grateful for what we have. Most importantly we learn that we are each other's greatest possession. I've learned that my greatest joy and blessings come when I am serving my husband. There is much I receive from giving.

Brett,
My love for you is never constant--it grows more and more every day.
Happy Anniversary Sweetheart!
Your forever,
Whitney
