Open Foundry

We look forward to Open Foundry all year. It's the day that the foundry on campus is open to the public to make [almost] anything they want. Most people make their sorority/fraternity symbols. It's a several-hour process, but we have fun seeing our little styrofoam pieces turn into little works of art.

styrofoam is cut and sanded, waiting to be packed into big boxes of fine dirt

molten aluminum metal is poured into the sand and melts the styrofoam, forming the shape of the mold

Brett cleans up the edges of the metal pieces with a metal buffer wheel

all done
