End of Summer

Brett's two-week summer break is coming to a close. We went to Brett's family reunion in Minnesota and rather enjoyed spending a long road trip with family, staying in a hotel, and swimming in a pool. I feel that I married into a really wonderful fun-loving family and I really enjoy spending time with them.

A terrible rainstorm met us upon returning home from our trip and for the next few days we watched our town get flooded. I heard it rained 14 inches one day. Fortunately our apartment is on higher ground and we were not inundated with water. The rain finally cleared up and the water receded. Our highways are dotted with huge potholes now.

Our 2nd Anniversary was this week. Unfortunately all our plans did not work out because it suddenly decided to pour buckets again. When the rain cleared we spent the evening taking a walk, playing frisbee in the park, and playing card games on our back porch step. Brett and I both felt that though none of our plans we've been looking forward to all year didn't work out, we were not very bummed about it because plans don't determine our marital happiness - it's each other. We're happy to be with each other and we love each other more and more as time goes on.

We are very excited (and very nervous) about the coming year. We're not expecting it to be easy, but we're ready to face the challenges ahead. Brett has finalized his class schedule so that he has everything set to graduate in May 2014. The biggest career fair of the year is coming up in a few weeks and Brett is interested in impressing a couple different companies with his resume. He has become quite interested in metal materials as well as ceramics due to his job and we're feeling confident that a certain steel company will want to hire him and pay him to continue his education in metallurgy. The Solar House competition is in October - Brett is not yet sure if he will be able to take a week off school to help compete in California, but he will continue to help build the house here. We are very interested in moving into the house in December. I continue to teach piano lessons and I also got a raise at my office job at the university.

Despite the hard things that life brings I feel as always - very blessed.
